Toxic Beauty – A very interesting read…..

Hopefully if you’re reading this blog then you are already on your way to becoming a natural beauty.  With more and more research suggesting links between certain product ingredients and illness, it is no wonder more people are questioning their beauty regimes.  The natural and organic beauty market is rapidly expanding, many are bona fide brands but others are just jumping on the band wagon with misleading claims.  There can be much confusion when choosing products, what study should you believe, what line is the real deal?

Dawn Mellowship’s book ‘Toxic Beauty, How hidden chemicals in cosmetics harm you’, is a brilliant guide for those who want to delve deeper and learn more about what is actually in their beauty products.  It is very in-depth starting with an explanation as to why personal care products are in question, then with a chapter on cancer and hormone disruption it is not light reading but certainly informative.

It is full of interesting facts such as “The average women spends 450 days applying her make-up in a lifetime”.  But also more shocking ones, did you know that “There are over 100,000 chemicals registered on the European Inventory of Existing Commercial Substances (EINECS).  Around 30,000 of these are believed to be in use and many of them have never been tested or barely tested for safety on humans, or their impact on the environment.”

The book also has an A-Z of common chemical ingredients as well as how to read a product label and some great natural alternative products.  Maybe not bedtime reading but an eye opener for sure, and a great accompaniment for anyone wanted to switch their make-up bag to a cleaner version.

This is what I am constantly going on about and why I started making my own Fresh Natural & Organic skincare range! It is very difficult trying to get the message over to people. I thought new mums would be concerned about the potentially harmful rubbish they put into baby products, but sadly not so.

It is a hard message to get across for sure. We just need to keep spreading the word that natural and organic is the way forward! It seems that more people are questioning what beauty products they are using, need to get them onto products like yours! Need to get them all to read this book!
