Kjaer Weis..

Throughout Kirsten Kjaer Weis’s career as a make-up artist she found that so many of her clients were having allergies to beauty products. The fact that this was acceptable seemed crazy to her, also the fact that these were only short term effects – what about the long term affects of using these products? Growing up on a farm where Kirsten’s family had harvested their own produce and lived a holistic lifestyle, meant that she knew all about the benefits of using natural and organic ingredients. However as a professional make-up artist, she couldn’t find the products that she needed to bring this into her work, so she started to develop her own line. Choosing the right ingredients to look after skin and avoiding the suspect ones was of the upmost importance, but so of course was the performance and the design.

Kjaer Weis as we know it today is a luxury line that performs brilliantly – it is just at home in a professional make-up kit as it is in a personal make-up bag. The colours are beautiful and the formulations will look after and nourish your skin with clean, green ingredients. Nearly the whole of the range is certified organic by the Italian certifying body CCPB with minimum 95% of the agriculturally derived ingredients coming from organic farming. A few of the blusher and lip colours do contain a very small amount of synthetic colour however so this does affect their organic status; the rest of the ingredients are exactly the same as the other colours. The other exception is the eyeshadows which are certified natural with 70% of the agriculturally derived ingredients coming from organic farming. The reason for this is the bamboo which cannot be certified as it is found in the wild.

The packaging is also beautiful and is refillable so ticks the sustainable box too. Kjaer Weis is a luxury brand so it isn’t cheap, and I must admit it did put me off for a while. I bought a refill of the cream foundation when it first came out to give it a go, however without the case it did get battered. The cases seem expensive but you do only buy them once and they are beautiful, slightly heavy but beautiful none the less – you won’t be embarrassed getting it out of your handbag! From a make-up artist point of view the refills are brilliant as you can make up your own palettes.

I’ve actually been using the cream foundations a lot recently and I love them. I’m not sure why they went of my radar, anyway they are back on it in a BIG way. The colour range is great and I like the texture. I’ve seen some comments that the texture is quite dry; you do need to prep skin well with a good moisturiser or oil. I also mix mine in with other creamier textures to make them more fluid – Vapour Organic Beauty’s Soft Focus Skin Perfecting Primer works beautifully with it. I’m building my colour palette up..

Ingredients – Mica, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Seed Oil•, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil•, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch•, Cera Alba (Beeswax)•, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax•, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil•, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil•, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Glyceryl Stearate, Talc, Gallic Acid. May Contain +/- CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491(Iron Oxides), CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 77492 (Iron Oxides)

• organically grown

I’m also a big fan of the eyeshadows and am building that palette up too. I’m impressed with the colour pay off and the longevity, I’ve used them on shoots and they don’t crease.

This is Cloud Nine applied to a bare eyelid and it lasted all day on a shoot with no touch up required..

and this is Transcend over a Pacifica cream eyeliner. The colour was built up well and blended beautifully.

Ingredients – Talc, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate , Bambusa Arundinacea Stem Powder, Mica, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax•, Zinc Stearate, Lonicera Caprifolium (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Aqua (Water), Tocopheryl Acetate, Lonicera Japonica (honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Gardenia Florida Fruit Extract, Dextrin, CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77499 (Iron Oxide), CI 77492(Iron Oxide), CI 77510 (Ferric Ferrocyanide), CI 75470(Carmine). Cautions – Contains Carmine

• organically grown

Cloud Nine, Earthy Calm, Green Depth, Magnetic, Onyx, Transcend are vegan. These are actually the only vegan products in the range as the other shades contain carmine and the rest of the range contains beeswax – organic beeswax I might add.. Also the talc used is clean talc and it is pressed which means there are no loose particles to cause problems.

So, I’m loving the foundations and the eye shadows, now staples in my kit for sure. I also really like the cream blushers, lip glosses and lipsticks – need to play more with those. I still haven’t tried the mascara!! I don’t like paying lots for a mascara and £30 has always seemed a bit much – I know £9 of that is the case and it would be £21 going forward after that with the refill.. so actually not that much more than similar ones on the market. I’m definitely appreciating Kjaer Weis at the moment, and it would be in the name of research…..

Who else is a fan of Kjaer Weis? What are your favourites?

Hiya I have a working as a flight attendant for the past 25 years. And you can well deduct that I have been wearing make up for a long time. However I switched to organic food for the past two years and it struck me how much chemicals I have been using on my face. I started to research on organic skincare and make up. What a beautiful discovery and journey and I am wearing 100% organic make up and skincare. Kjaer Weis is among my favorites. I wear the KW RED lipstick as well as the blue wonder, wisdom and charmed eye shadows for work. I get compliments from my fellow colleagues and customers. And being aware that they are completely safe cosmetics gives you more confidence too! Purchased the dazzling bronzer and one lip tint too. Just ordered the cream foundation and can’t wait to try it. Love love Kjaer Weis and most important would NEVER switch to non organic make up ever!
